Destitute



Destitute are a young local female fronted band who made their first at Cwmaman Institute in 2004 at the end of a Songwriting Workshop programme. Having played a number of gigs since Destitute are returning to Cwmaman Institute of show what their made of!



5.45pm – 6.30pm

Beyond Afterlife



Beyond Afterlife are a Heavy Metal band from Swansea who formed in the early 90’s. Apparently the band are a must for fans of hard rock and heavy and have been described as a halfway house between Iron Maiden and Megadeth so get out your leather jackets and dust off your spandex!



6.30pm – 7.15pm

The Firebrand



The Firebrand are an up and coming alternative band from Aberdare who have recently received a lot of attention in the local press. This Friday the band will be competing against bands from across South Wales in the Pop Factory Battle of the Bands Finals – let’s hope they will be appearing at Cwmaman Music Fundraiser as Winners! The Firebrand’s influences include The Pixies, Nirvana, Sonic Youth and The Meat Puppets.



7.15pm – 8pm

Prince of Fochriw


Described as ''The New Breed of Old School Heavy Metal'', Prince Of Fochriw are a South Wales based Heavy Metal band, set for a big year in 2006. On the turn of the new Millenium when Heavy Metal had become jaded and unpopular, POF were a stand alone band who played the music they believed in and stood firm through the various trends that originated in the South Wales Music Scene. POF have evolved there music over the last four years, and have had various line-up changes, but the band are set to take big steps in 2006.
POF combine Frantic Riffs, Hard Driving Drums, Lead Lines and gritty old school vocals to create a unique and distinct sound. POF draw upon a range of Influences ranging from Past Masters such as Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Metallica and Pantera, to contempories such as Arch Enemy, In Flames, Machine Head and Trivium.



8pm – 8.45pm

Angelpig



Angelpig are a very cool three piece band from Aberdare and Swansea who play music that is quite similar to the style of Jane’s Addiction. Two thirds of the band also happen to be the rhythm section of the Black Sabbath tribute band Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - so it’s no suprising that the bass and drums in this band are very intricate and tight! Not to be missed!



8.45pm – 9.30pm

Freeloader


Freeloader formed in 1997 and for nearly ten years have been playing across South Wales bringing their old school rock to every corner of the valleys. This year the band have supported signed bands Skindred, The Tokyo Dragon to name but a few and recorded at the infamous Nott in Pill Studio in Newport. Freeloader have also received airplay on various radio stations this year, both in Britain and the U.S. With their live shows, Freeloader bring energy and madness - most who get to see them seem to enjoy it, the band doesn't believe in being boring and have the motto “If somebody wants to listen to a band, they can just throw on a c.d, so you gotta give them something different live that makes it worthwhile getting up and going along!”.



9.30pm – 10.30pm

Cornerstone



CornerStone are a 5 Piece Stoner-Funk band hailing from the west side of Merthyr and Caerphilly in South Wales who started out playing covers and other funkalicious tunes around 2 years ago and have now settled in this mothership of a connection to bring you a ‘visceral groove of funk dipped in a psychedelic acid bowl of rock’. The band have gigged all across Wales and this year also played at London’s legendary 100 Club.

Huw Chidgey



Huw Chidgey is from Cwmaman and a regular at Cwmaman Acoustic Club. He usually plays with flautist Catherine Handley and together they have released a number of recordings through Raglan Records to much critical acclaim. Huw’s repertoire is based on the traditions of the British Isles, either directly, in their arrangements of traditional material, or indirectly from the work of contemporary writers working in the Folk idiom. Huw will also be appearing at Cwmaman Institute later this month accompanied by Catherine Handley when they appear at Cwmaman Acoustic Club on the 30th November.





6pm – 7pm

Red Eyed Fly


Red-Eyed Fly are a 4-piece rhythm and blues band based in South Wales, playing a mix of stuff from Bullmoose Jackson to Corey Harris to originals and anything in between. An energetic band with an eclectic frontman Red Eyed Fly are popular favourites at Cwmaman Acoustic Club where they will be appearing next on the 28th December



7pm – 8pm

Chris Somerhill


Chris Somerhill is part of Somers and Jones a popular duo on the valleys pub and club circuit. Chris will be appearing solo this Sunday with his acoustic soft rock ballads that have drawn comparison to David Gray and Simon and Garfunkel. Somers and Jones will be their appearing as a duo on the 14th December at Cwmaman Acoustic Club



8pm – 9pm

Celtic Spirit



Celtic Spirit, are a five piece folkrock band from Aberdare, South Wales Valleys. Their music comes from the four corners of Britain, although Irish music is a predominant theme. Celtic Spirit host every third Thursday at Cwmaman Acoustic Club and are always lively and entertaining



9pm – 10pm

Curly


Alan Davies also known as Curly has been on the local music circuit for decades. An incredibly talented and acclaimed blues musician Curly is known for his deep dark soulful blues, his musical influences include the guitarists Davey Graham, Bert Jansch, John Renbourne and the Jazz greats like Wes Montgomery, Charlie Byrd and John McGlaughlin. Also included in this list of luminaries is the blues of Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. Other equally distinguished influences are Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and Bob Marley.



10pm – 11pm

James Parr



James Parr is a man of many talents. This unassuming musician from Cwmaman plays inspirational music with influences drawing from native South American music to the legendary Syd Barret. James’ set is always suprising and you never know what instruments will be played next – expect pan pipes, harmonica, South American mini guitar, acoustic guitar and vocals and maybe even some magic!
