ROBOTS TALK IN TWOS- From The Cradle To The Grave

Discordant punk, snatches of high-pitched prog rock, broken shards of indie and layers of quirk-packed alterna-pop… It might seem like Robots Talk In Twos are packing too much in here. One minute the Welsh quintet's punchy beats and shrill vocals sound like Snapcase at their sharpest and the next they do a decent impression of Biffy Clyro at their most sedate. It's not a lack of care or concentration that makes 'From The Cradle To The Grave' so schizophrenic though; it's a lack of fear. And it's brilliant. These songs are brave enough to go way beyond the three minute barrier ('Ketamine Disco' goes twice as long and sounds bloody fantastic all the way), they don't cave-in to trifling things like verse-chorus-verse and they never, ever sound ordinary. This is what At The Drive-In would have sounded like if they were from Newport not Mexico and dug drinking cider rather than reading revolutionary politics. The 'Bots sound is probably too fractured, too frantic, too fucking good to get the attention it deserves right now but cult status and other, greater things are surely just round the bend. And this is only their debut disc.
