Thread: Judges, Crowd, or both??????????

Been to a couple of this years BOTB at the Pop Factory and went to most of last years at the Black and there are like last year quite a few really good bands not getting through and some poor bands getting through just because they have or havent brought loads of friends down to win them the crowd vote.............This year is even worse cause of the fact that the comp is way out in the sticks....and the 3 occasions this year i have bin down there has been no real crowd at all, just friends of each of the bands.....which begs the question why bother with the crowd vote at all.......or this comp will and is just starting to be a...."see how many friends u can get to the Pop Factory comp"............I think do away with the "friends of the bands voting"......(sorry mean crowd vote).......and just let the judges decide!...............this is way fairer and will mean the best band wins, not the band with the most mobile mates!!!............hope the organisers see sense for the next rounds!!!

i disagree. not all judges will agree on what a good band is or is not, its all perspective. and opinion, and the opinions of 50 or 60 ppl that the crowd vote would be compared to the opinion of 1 judge vote.... in my opinion the crowd vote is a good idea, it is flawed, but so is the judge vote, then again so is the whole battle of the bands system.

not just battle royale, i mean all botbs, but crowd voting wont leave as it encourages bands to get more ppl to the venue, and promoters dont like to put gigs on for free.

well surprise surpirse i never thought u would disagree Spider!....(doh).....you have missed the point completely again mate.........if it was a random 50 or 60 people it would be far better than any judges vote......but the point is its not!!.........its all friends of the bands there are no random people out for a night of music at these BOTBs..............so the crowd vote is a load of tosh matey...........judges should be left to decide...............i mean u dont have a boxing match were one guys wins on points but the losing guys wins cause hes fighting on home turf and theres more people there to see him.........have an impartial random crowd and well go with your idea bro

i am trying to point out that i disagree with crowd or judge votes cos they are both wrong in their own way.

the crowd vote is fairer than the judge vote in my opinion, but. i dont think its fair either, because as you say the ppl who are there are "mates" of the band. but they aint all mates, they are sometimes fans, and its hard to come by fans, specially ones who will travel 30 miles into "the sticks" (as you liked to put it) to see their favourite band play.

judges votes are never fair either, because that judge will always be biased towards a certain genre of music, so as usual you have made a total cunt of yourself.

and its nothing like a boxing match. some bands are heavy weights some bands are feather weights (its not fair to put em in a ring together)

...speaking from experience, if your really fond of a band, and wanna turn up to their gigs, in the non-stalking sense, then is it so hard to believe that you become friends with that band? the crowd can consist of both friends and fans as it were...

Rockstar48, if you are in a band, I don't know if you are, and you were in a BOTB you'd more than likely get as many of your friends there as possible to vote for you, cus you're not likely to tell them to go with whatever band they think is the best. Let's face facts.

Better bands will benefit from other aspects than BOTB's so it's hardly doing them any harm by being voted out cus less of their friends were there.

I was 1 of the judges last yr at the black.....im not a lover of what i deem to be hardcore metal, screamo or whatever u wanna call it.....but i was unbiased enuff to put that style of band thro over a band that id prefer to listen to. id always go with judges votes myself....but its all about getting arses in2 venues which would ultimatley pay for any prizes etc

bands bring mates, judges judge, people moan, promoters have to make money - these are the cold hard facts.

i cried and cried tears of sorrow after losing last year's botb*. then i remembered that i'm still in coronajones, that i'm incredibly lucky and priveledged to be in a band with talented individuals who are as commitment -bonkers as i am, and as a band we're incredibly lucky to have people who believe in us.

i say settle things by who can fire their man (or lady love) muck over the greatest possible distance, on daytime tv, into fern britains' gob hole. it's the only fair and correct way of establishing who is the 'best band'.

* didn't really cry - PWK won fair and square, and we had 200 quid to spend on subscriptions to razzle and fiesta readers wives.

Can I just say at this point, Corona Jones Turned up last year in heat one and not one person in the crowed heard of them. So how come they ended up with most of the votes then? Don't underestimate people who go to these BOTB gig's, it's not as black and white as you may think.
