[Puts helmet on for the abuse that's probably going to follow me posting this]
I've been reading this thread with interest today. And it was someone posting rubbish about my band that made me subscribe actually.
I'm going to play Devil's advocate here, so here goes:
It depends on what you mean by shit really. If you mean "not your bag" and by that you mean shit. Well...that doesn't mean they're shit does it?
If you mean, you don't like their song writing, then that also doesn't actually make them shit.
A band can be "good" without a) pressing your buttons, or b) moving you with their songwriting.
I happen to think 4th street are a "good band". I.e. they can play, their singer has a good range and can pitch well and they're tight.
Now, at the same time, from listening to their myspace; there's only one of their songs that I can hand on heart, say I like.
Q) Would I pay money to watch them live?
A) Probably not.
Q) Would I stick around after my set if we were on the same bill as them?
A) Well...I have done.
Q) Do I think they're a bit too Stereophonics and as such, not the most original of acts?
A) Yes, I do. I think they need to find their own sound.
They seem nice enough guys when I've spoken to them. But you have to speak as you find. I've no cause to not believe anyone who would say the opposite.
I've no doubt we all have the ability to be utter pricks should the situation arise. But again, that doesn't make them a shit band. I've seen much, much worse.
Sorry it's a bit of an essay.
