"you should take off your goddamn sweatters smash your fucking lunchboxes and stop your crying. everything your trying to do just makes punk more of a corporate fad and a novilltiey for middle class white teenagers looking to reble in style with the rest of their so called friends"
Couldnt put it any better if i tried
i'm nooaaat oooooo kay, i'm naaaat ooooo kayyyy.
have the collective 'we' ascertained that MCR and Finch aren't really emo yet?
Emo = old school Weezer
they are pop rock, or just pop really. I can't think what else to call MCR but complete utter fucking annoying cuntwitt shits. Finch well im not to sure, id just call them upbeat rock.
I don't get catigrisation (sp?) anyway, i just keep it simple, punk, metal, emo.
Locked away with a skeleton key...
It's all pretty ghey if you ask me.
i couldn't agree more!
surely there are too many sub genres flying around at the mo...its getting fuckin stoopid man
at the stage now where you write a song and its one style- then write another with a slightly different riff or chord sequence and hey presto- you mutated your band into a whole different genre.... and the guys who liked your first song are now commenting that you're not what you used to be now you've changed your whole style and ethos
how come theres all this "post emo" stuff goin round anyways?!
call me old fashioned but doesnt post mean "after"?
hardly think emo has been round, or at least well established, long enough to have any kind of "post" movement happening yet
wonder if anyones thought of just calling it "music" for a bit...now that would be revolutionary
Emo has been around since the 80's and came out of the punk scene. What you all think is emo is more like post emo post harcore. But that's a mouthful and wouldn't sell records would it.
just seems stupid to have a "post" movement before the genre has been fully established.
granted- it may have been round for a longer period of time than most are aware (myself included) but many styles of music go through developments in their underground stages, before breaking to mainstream- and I would still consider emo a kind of sub genre at present
reckon it should be given a bit more time to breathe at this "mainstream" stage before post labels are slapped all over it.
I'm not slapping labels. I wouldn't presume to do something so abhorrently nauseating to me. I'm just trying to point out to the board that what the majority of people call emo is not emo... it is a watered down extrapolation with basically nothing other than vocals influenced by a strand of the 80's us punk movement.
I don't know what I would call it (or if I would even bother). But it's definetely the tail end of something. I don't and won't pretend to understand 90% of the supposed different musical genres and cores etc that people tell me are about at the moment, because I simply can't distinguish and don't have enough knowledge of each. But I think I'm right in that they seem to get umbrella categorised under "emo". This is wrong... is my point wether you like them or not.
But having said all that I do agree with your overall point that whatever is happening at the moment isn't done and something will hopefully find it's way out of it... something with a bit more of an identity maybe.
And I couldn't of generalised more if I tried."you should take off your goddamn sweatters smash your fucking lunchboxes and stop your crying. everything your trying to do just makes punk more of a corporate fad and a novilltiey for middle class white teenagers looking to reble in style with the rest of their so called friends"

Word, Dave!
That site is pretty cool. I know it might be a bit much to do an entire site about emo, but he's got it right. Too bad that every 'emo' kid these days doesnt know who Ian Mckay is. Fuckin' tampin for them.
