    Looking for an SG

im looknig for an sg and want to spend as little as possible but i still want a decent guitar
scouling ebay and i came across this:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WESTFIELD-SG-C...QQcmdZViewItem
now...i've never used or know anyone that uses a "westfield" so im wondering if is just gona sound like mud or will it be half decent
i used to use a stagg custom les paul and the sound with that wasnt so bad, but the stagg sg's, well they dont really look all that much like sg's:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ELECTRIC-GUITA...QQcmdZViewItem
another i spotted was the vintage copy:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VINTAGE-VS6-GI...QQcmdZViewItem
failing any of them, should i just dig into the student loan and get an epiphone?

man - if your worried about what it'll sound like..just buy one that you think looks nice for as little as possible and change the bridge pickup in it

Its about playability too. Sound is rarely an issue. I got a Gibson Sg and compared to the epiphone version the action is far sweeter. Epiphone are still regarded as the best in terms of performance and playability. A decent second hand epiphone can be got for about 200 quid if lucky. Look for one with the silver capped pickups as these sound awesome especially when recording.

But if you can play guitar at all in the first place it shouldnt sound shit at all! If you wann a know how good a Gibson Sg is at best just listen to any Refused album. All were recorded using the same two SGs

i know amn, ive played a few gibsons, and they're well nice - and ive owned an epiphone which i snapped the neck off (pecie of shit) but my point is - if you buy a cheap guitar, the action is usually wank on them, necks are pretty vile and wide, that're harder to play - and then the pickups are usually tinny as fuck, or not high gain enough, or squeal like fuck... so if you change the pickups then it will sound as good as any gibson one will, if not better, but it wont play as nice, cos at the end of the day, its still the same cheap copy like

the sound is in the wood too... pickups are only part of the equation.

You can pick up a decent Epiphone SG (the G400) on eBay or the web for about £230 delivered,

Thats the best of the SG copies in my opinion, the only better one i can think of would be the G400 Custom, this comes in Ivory / Cream colour and had 3 humbuckers rather than two, this is about £280 delivered.

At a lower price is the G-310, tasty guitar, about £180 delivered, and looks alot better than the Epiphone SG Special, which is a tiny bit cheaper.

As for the Vintage one, looks nice as fuck, but I would imagine it sounds shite, but you could always get some half decent pickups and put em' in.

It all depends what you want it for, if your at home go for the cheaper option, if your in a serious band and you want your tunes to sound tip-top, then its gotta be the G400 or an actual Gibson SG, which would set you back towards £800.
