Thread: Dai Dot Has Left The Building...

We are now dai-less, Dave unfortunatly has decided that he no longer wants to be a part of covergirl and has moved on to greener pastures, we wish the hairy bastard best of luck in his new job and whatever he decides to do and we still love the gay, he left on good terms and decided not to take his ideas with him (which was down right decent). As for us we're gonna struggle on with a slightly less hairy stand in aka Rich from our good/sexy/gay friends in adzuki for now and see how it goes from there, no booked gigs are going to be cancelled (except for friday) and next week is still on like donkey kong so hope to see you there, any comments, messages of good luck to dai are welcome so just drop us a comment on our myspace or forum innit. Also our new CD is still gonna be released soon so keep an eye out!. Don't go anywhere cos we're not.

cheers to anyone who has supported my band .. or should i say "the band" now in the last 5 years 4 months and 1 day that we were in existance. Its been fun and more often than not, real fucking headwork, but ive always been so absoultly head over heels in love with the music, the joy we brought to (a few, if not many) peoples faces and the fun we have had together.

The long and short of things is I feel ive come to the end of the road, I was there for the earliest kings head gigs, help give birth to sellout promotions ( for that you can either thank me, or send me death letters, your choice!) which salts now runs perfectly got jealous of every single other band in south wales when we got passed over for them in certain things and took every single piece of crap that a disintergrating music scene past at us.

Simple truth is I never set out in the band to ever become famous, all I wanted was to play shows, and nowadays, even at our SHITTY level its all too serious man. When 16 year olds came telling me of their independent record deal (from some dude in Ystrad Rhondda), their mesa boogie rectifiers and the stylist they got (record bosses wifes sister bla bla bla) I could take all this shit having to be at a level where you should just be enjoying it!

After doing this for so long as well (some may not class 5 years as long, but we have played a total of 237 gigs that i have counted!) the bands initial goals change, and you change with them, I fully no longer saw eye to eye with the other main songwriter on how this band was due to go, and it was causing a real hate hate relationship, which I could no longer stand, being a part of something, which i know deep down, im not.

You can also only lose some much over what is effectively a pipe dream. I threw all my university life into it, coming out with only a bog standard degree.... but the band kept me happy. I lost the upmost love of my life over it..... but the band kept me happy (enough). Now that Im at an age where things are expected of you as a graduate (masters graduate even) its time I finally "grew up" and faced the band, after a few near misses, is not likely something I will end up doing as a career.

I think many people will look at this critisise/point/laugh and me, most people have always and still will class me a total cunt, ok thats fair dos, but for those that dont, cheers for at least having half an inch for respect for me about this, so many of you are fucking legends and play hard and work hard. I felt ive done alright over my time, not necessarly for the music scene (ie going to rms) cos for me, I loved my music and music my friends were making and wanted us to get it out everywhere, hence the many fleur dy lys all dayer, trip to london and stupid shit shows, in stupid shit places, just to spread the word.

Ill never forget the awesome things we acheived, playing the stadium (ok miming!), being on national radio/ Tv and getting called many times a "2nd rate/piss poor <insert random cool band here>". The times sony promised us a deal.... the times we were promised petrol and I lied and said we got it, just to no chase the promoter back to his house, the times we got pissed in the van, the times the van broke down, ill never forget them!

Ive missed stuff out I know, for that I apologise, if i look back yes i would have done things differently, I would have changed things, but hey its gone now, and I just look back to the happy times, and the hope that Richard Iwan and Ceri prove me wrong, get some lush bird in on the guitar to replace me, and another chick playing keyboard, and fucking break the charts, i wont come knocking to rejoin, ill just be happy in knowing that you still believed, and you still loved.

I wont be formering a new band anytime soon, however I am looking for people to jam with for the possiblity of other projects, nothing hardcore, nothing metal, as of today, i can drop the tag, and now just be plain (emo)dave, but dai dot aint dead, never will be, just hit me up to chat sometime, sit on my knee and let me tell ya story....
