    Gathering Botb final....Second place!!

    yo yo....

i'm happy to let u guys kno that we went, we saw we kicked ass, we suffered technical problems...(some silly bint dancing next to the mains socket wen we were playing tripped the amps...wench!!)....and we came second!

Prolific Noise a synth orientated band from bridgend came first....and fair dues....they are cool as fuck so i didn't feel so bad..

    but still....

as second place winners we recieved

    1) £250 buck buck ding ding for the band..

    2) a website..(cool as fuck)

    3) showcases at The coal exchange or the point

    4) showcase in clwb ifor bach....cool as fuck

but reflecting back...the winning band receive studio time wid fried egg studios and music video aswell as £500 on top of wat we got.....

but i dun feel bad at all..

because on top of what we got, Danny Chang came up to us and personally asked for us to record with him in da studio...(rock as fuck).....and some other dude asked if he could do us a music video...(well seeing as ur offering)

so wen i look back at the BOTB....we lost out on a mere £250.....and got da rest too..

plus the experience of playing infront of 465 people...believe me people when i say we had the crowd eating out of our hands.....

the winning spot was only decided by a few points anyways....close as fuck from what i hear.......all in all....

we fucking enjoyed and wished we coulda shared it with a u guys back home...bridgend rec jipped us big style telling us that the free tickets we had were the only ones we had to get ppl from over here in.....apparently they were sold out....which meant that ppl were turned away at the door....

if u were one of those ppl i apologise as it was only brought to our attention when we first got to the gig otherwise we wuda bought loads to make sure u were able to get in..

the new demo went down a treat 2..

All in all.....a fucking good gig was had....one less thing 2 worry about.....

now prepare to be hearing some new shit from the MEA camp as we're gonna be working like fuck to rock the fuck outta you guys

i think vanessa is amply sized for the band...seeing as the rest of us are tall cunts it makes more look more normal as a band

the pics are done behind Kwik save in pandy. we needed pics of the band to enter the gathering, so it was a last min dash to find somewhere sutiable b4 we handed in the forms to enter. justin phillips, a good friend of ours done them for us, he is also responisble for the amazing art we got aswel.

well done in the botb final, i though you guys were wicked, prolific noise are a great pair, and it was unfortunate that the laptop got the 1st place spot over alot of bands.
but hey, the stuffs wicked and so's his voice.

you were by far the best band on the night, and by the sounds of your prizes, you didnt do too bad, which is awesome!
be looking forward to hear the recorded stuff !

At the end of the day, the judges took prolific noise into the competition even though their not a band as such they were part of the contest, like them or not they won.
Mea were the best band, no doubt.

even the third place position choice was shocking.
its not simple writing good songs via sequencers... using acoustic guitar and awesome vocal effects, so dont knock em down.

i believe that they are a hell of alot more marketable than most bands...they fall into alot of catergories which is good....

Labels do look for a good long appeal,....on top of that i liked prolific noise...true it isn't always easy to write good songs using sequencers....but then again it can take more time to ram 4 ppl together and write stuff that comes off tight and dynamic....PN do have an advantage in this respect as they do have their tempo..pre planned...which is good cos it means they can be tight as fuck....it also has a fall-back where if ur guitar is not in tune when ur playing along with a computer it sounds terrible....

either way you look at it...they're just as much of band than anyone who entered that competition...

i personally thought it was cool as fuck because i enjoyed the music and i think its alot more different for this music scene that we have....maybe i'm wrong....but still....less band knockin...nuff said

I didnt say they weren't a band... and i really dont give a fuck about what labels look for to be honest. I don't think anyone should use that as a valid point when talking about the merits of a band etc... Besides why would a band like that obviously able to produce their own music even need to worry about what labels thought... theres bound to be a dozen electronica labels in the uk who would eat that up nicely

What I should have said is that I have seen better examples of that genre, and although they were polished I thought that the songs could have been better. I didn't really see many ideas in there... if you're gonna have a bash at that sort of semi industrial whatever you wanna call that sort of stuff... digital reznorism is it? then you're gonna need a heap of originality and production ideas... I didn't hear many... Saying that I couldn't hear much at all cos it took the engineer 15 minutes to get a line signal from the dudes laptop. LOL

Having said that I really liked the track where the guy played live keys instead of having them on the sequencer... That one had loads of texture... I seriously think if they had more live instruments in their arrangement these guys would rock. Another thing that confused me was that the guy was playing the rhythym guitar track live and the lead guitar was sync'd... surely it would "feel" better the other way round... maybe not, but I suppose I just would have done it different.

Clearly i was just taking the piss with my ever so unwitty kareoke comment.

I don't expect to get mega flamed cos I think if your band enters a botb then your opening yourself up to peoples opinions and commentary... I don't think im really being anything but constructively critical... with the exception of my earlier quip. Yes we can all be dickheads.
