right, Im a tad pissed off....

All this BOTB shit has gott to everyones head, people are talking about it, arguing about it, praising it, etc.

When I first picked up a guitar, it was cos I had spent my entire life surrounded by music as all of us are. I didnt think, 'wow, Im gonna grow up and become the next Hendrix...', all I wanted was to write some songs I thought I liked, regardless of what other people think. Thats what music is, or at least should try to be. So why is everyone shouting their mouth off like this is something cool??? Do you know whats cool?? Music. Do you know whats not cool?? Having a fucking ego about it. I really dont give two shits what happens at this BOTB crap, if Toy Mic trev enters and wins I dont care(wud be funny tho...). All I wanna do is write songs and Im finding it more and more difficult when theres a load of stress about it. A lot of you here on DN are in bands or are musicians yourselves, but christ it doesnt make you important. Winning, or losing at this piece of shit competition isnt important. And, I think its incredibly disgusting that you compete music in this way. what the hell is this Top of the Pops??? Are we gonna have a top ten single run down aswell?? Will you just please make music cos you like it and be happy with that??
So calm down all you 'rock gods', just write some songs and enjoy cos you do.

yep BOTB is a money spinning pile of poo but it gets bands communicating, gives them gigs, creates a bit of hype and excitement and a bit of friendly rivalry which aint a bad thing for any band.

If you can't take the heat get out the kitchen lol! - if you don't agree with competing musically why enter your band in a competition!?! I love writin songs and our music is a raw and weird and don't fit into to any scene - I want as many people to hear the freaky shit as poss. It would be cool for us to win coz we would use the money towards recordin a tidy demo in a barn. It also gives bands the chance to play with bands they would never normally be billed with. It's all good my friend and you don't need an ego to get into the spirit - it's a laugh innit - I think there are only a handful of bands taking this shit that seriously. I always swore that I would never enter a BOTB coz you are right they are seriously uncool but a gig is a gig in my eyes and winning sumfin is a bonus init and when you got a band in ya heat prepared to squash ya you got to at least try take a stand yeah!?! If only to fight in the name of unscene weirdness...

always have taken BOTB as a chance to play your music to a wider audience, if u win= you win but if you dont go through, dont worry about it

can i get an Amen?!? theres a lot of banter and arguing about this competiiton on DN, not so much with us as we're not local and new so many people have not heard us, but with the localish bands in the aberdare area n stuff there seems to be a lot. at the end of the day we expect nothing except a chance to get some new ppl to hear our music and to play some songs we wrote, should be fun and thats what its all about

400 bucks would help us take the music to more people.

If it were about money I would have given up yonks ago And ok 400 quid aint even that much cash but

it will pay for a day in a good studio or
Petrol money for 20 gigs or
16 all day rehearsals or
400 demo's copied or
a Freaky Fortnight website, domain name and phone bill for updating it....

These are all things that happen around the music and it does actually cost money and we blatantly aint got any
the only thing to take seriously is the making of the music bollox to everythin

yeah, buts its not just 400 quid, its a music video worth 4 grand too! i think thats the major prize here, winning battle of the bands and getting a pro music video made will get ur band MAJOR attention and publicity, possibly even a step towards getting signed. You never know, it could be the first step in the very hard road.
I think thats worth battlling for!!

I think BOTB's area great why to showcase your music, for the public to show that they appreciate it. The cash prizes are intended to develop your skills, by allowing you to get recording days, new equipment etc.
The idea of a winner and looser is as much of a thing for the public as it is for the band, the band yes does get the ego trip, but the public also get to hear the best of the best which the area has to offer.

You can't be a muscian without money, lets face it.
They aint sellin out or some shit. Most of the bands jus love playin to a crowd

I see tookey getting pretty down on this whole idea, well i stand by my band and if he dont want to play then he dont have to play it. But I dont see the point in not playng a gig, any gig, wheather its in the local pisser or at some BOTB's with delusions of grandure.

I just fucking love playing music to who ever whenever and if anyone thinks its about the money try finding out the last time any of us got paid to do this.

I dont even know what im saying anymore, but I'd always rather play a gig than not, it being a battle of the bands aint really the issue

U have many good points there my son..but the world of music aint so pure..its evil..and a cunt.......and the way it is...this aint the age of love anymore..its a vastly competive area....i dont now if its coz im getting a bit long in the tooth....
